ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays activated Logan Morrison from the disabled list ahead of Monday's opener against the Padres at Tropicana Field.
To clear a spot on the roster for the veteran first baseman/designated hitter, the Rays optioned right-hander Dylan Floro to Triple-A Durham.
"Thrilled to have Lo-Mo back. You guys have been around him, you see what he provides in our clubhouse," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "It's nice to have him back; kind of that veteran presence."
Morrison had been on the DL, retroactive to July 28, with a right forearm strain.
"Excited to get back out there and help the guys win, help add to the offense," Morrison said. "I feel like they've been doing a good job. Keep it going and see what happens."
Morrison went 3-for-13 (.231) with a double and two walks in four games on a rehab assignment last week for Class A Advanced Charlotte. He's hitting .228 with 10 homers and 31 RBIs in 87 games this year.
Morrison was in the Rays' lineup as the DH on Monday. He also plays first base, the position recently designated for hot-hitting Brad Miller.
"We're going to mix and match," Cash said. "We've got that going with a lot of guys right now. ... Lo-Mo's done some good things for us. He'll continue to go out there and play."
Morrison had been bothered by his forearm since the All-Star break before eventually going on the DL. He was in a 2-for-23 stretch in his last seven games before beginning his absence.
Morrison cited "not being able to play" as the "most frustrating and toughest thing" about his ordeal.
"You don't ever want to go an extended time without being on a big league baseball field," Morrison said. "So looking forward to that. [We'll] see what happens, but feeling good."
Floro went 0-1 and gave up seven earned runs over 15 innings (4.20 ERA) in 12 outings for the Rays since his contract was selected on July 6.
Worth noting
• Enny Romero (back strain) threw a simulated game Monday. Cash said they will see how Romero feels on Tuesday before deciding on the next move, but if he feels well, he'll likely start a rehab assignment for Charlotte on Thursday.
• Oswaldo Arcía (right elbow strain) is on a rehab assignment with Charlotte and went 0-for-3 Sunday night in the Stone Crabs' 7-1 loss to Fort Myers. In six games with Charlotte, he is 5-for-17 with a walk, triple, home run, and four RBIs.
• Right-handers Alex Cobb and Chase Whitley, both of whom are rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, will start on Tuesday night, Cobb for Durham and Whitley for Charlotte.
• Cash said there was "no real update" on outfielder Desmond Jennings (left knee contusion) "other than still going through the rehab process; continuing his treatment, stuff like that."
