Rays announce front-office personnel moves

January 9th, 2017

ST. PETERSBURG -- Rays president Brian Auld announced several personnel changes within the organization on Monday.
James Click's promotion to vice president of baseball operations highlighted those changes.
Click joined the Rays in 2006 as the team's coordinator of baseball operations and later became director of baseball research and development. Prior to his promotion, he served as director of baseball operations, overseeing the Rays' research and development group as well as assisting in daily activities of the baseball operations department and player personnel decisions.
Chaim Bloom and Erik Neander each held the title of vice president of baseball operations last season prior to their promotions earlier in the offseason.
Neander is now senior vice president of baseball operations/general manager, and Bloom is senior vice president of baseball operations.
Click graduated from Yale with a history degree.
Also on the baseball operations side, Graham Tyler was promoted to director, baseball operations, and Jonathan Erlichman was promoted to director, analytics.
Tyler had been the coordinator of baseball operations and Erlichman had served as an analyst for research and development.
Of note, positions were named to help oversee two newly formed departments within the organization: the employee and community engagement department; and the creative services department.
Bill Wiener Jr., who is now vice president of employee and community initiatives, will jointly oversee the employee and community engagement department with Jennifer Lyn Tran, who has been promoted to vice president of human resources and organizational engagement.
"Our employee initiatives have always been tightly integrated with community outreach efforts, so combining the departments made sense for us," Auld said. "We have two extraordinary executives in Bill Wiener and Jenn Tran -- each of whom has been with the Rays for over 20 years now -- to lead the new endeavor."
Eric Weisberg, who is now senior director of marketing and creative services, will oversee the creative services department.
"We will benefit from great collaboration from our most creative employees by integrating our social media, graphics, video production and advertising functions under Eric Weisberg," Auld said.
Warren Hypes has been promoted to director, creative services.
Other changes will see Brian Richeson become vice president of corporate partnerships and Jeff Tanzer become senior director of ticket sales and service.
Matt Fitzpatrick has been promoted to director of ticket services and technology, and Josh Muirhead has been promoted to director of season ticket services.
