ST. PETERSBURG -- While Rays fans are getting to know Corey Dickerson this season, there is one thing they already know: When he hits a homer, it leaves the yard quickly.
During the Rays' 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays on Tuesday night, Dickerson's leadoff homer in the fourth off Aaron Sanchez was projected by Statcast™ to land 411.46 feet away from home plate and had an exit velocity of 106.37 mph. Dickerson's homer Sunday against right-hander Marcus Stroman was projected by Statcast™ to land 386.79 feet away and it had an exit velocity of 102.31 mph.
Dickerson never seems to get cheated with his big swing.
"That's my normal swing," Dickerson said, "so I feel pretty comfortable up there with my swing."
Dickerson became the first Rays player to hit two home runs in the first three games of the season since Carlos Pena did so in 2012. Dickerson also did it with the Rockies in 2015.
"He hits it hard," Rays hitting coach Derek Shelton said. "I think that's the one thing we saw right from the get-go when we got him."
Shelton said he isn't about to tell Dickerson to back off from his big swing.
"That's his swing," Shelton said. "The fact that he came over with that swing and that's what he's had success with."
