ST. PETERSBURG -- Jake Odorizzi's right foot was sore on Thursday, but the prognosis is good for the right-hander to make his next scheduled start on Monday in Toronto.
Boston's Eduardo Nunez hit a shot off Odorizzi's right foot in the fifth inning of Wednesday night's 8-2 Rays loss, which caused him to leave the game. Subsequent X-rays were negative.
On Thursday, Odorizzi said he'd know for sure after throwing a bullpen session on Friday, but he seemed good for now.
"He's obviously going to stay off his foot today," Rays manager Kevin Cash said. "We knew he'd come in pretty sore, but I think he'll be OK to get a light side session in and be ready in five days."
Cash believes Odorizzi will make his next start as scheduled.
Lucas Duda had to be scratched from Wednesday night's game due to a left thumb contusion he incurred during infield practice. He was back in the lineup as the designated hitter for Thursday night's game against the Indians.
"We texted each other this morning, and he said he felt pretty good," Cash said. "He felt like he was going to be able to give it a go. Got some treatment, went in the cage and said he's fine to hit. It's probably a little more sore to catch. But that should be out of there within a day. And I think if he had to play first, he'd be fine. But we need his bat in the lineup, that's the key."

Catcher Wilson Ramos had a rough night Wednesday night when he had a passed ball and couldn't block two wild pitches. The veteran catcher did not join the Rays until late in the season since he was rehabbing from knee surgery. In the time he's been back with the team, he's also experienced a hamstring problem, which brought questions for Cash regarding how Ramos will be used going forward.
"I need to do a better job of talking and communicating with Wilson," Cash said. "See how he's feeling. He wants to play, and I know that. ... Maybe we need to consider and get his opinion on what a really successful workload would be for him. The last thing we want to do is a guy coming in from a major knee surgery, run him into the ground. I'm not saying that we've done that, but we want to be cognizant of it."
Kevin Kiermaier (right hip fracture) took batting practice for the first time since his setback on Thursday. He had been on a rehab assignment when he experienced a setback in the form of a stiff back. After taking several days off to let the back pain subside, the Gold Glove center fielder appears to be close to heading back on a rehab assignment.
