OAKLAND -- Another no-decision for Jake Odorizzi on Friday night. Boy, did he deserve better.
"Odo was outstanding," Rays manager Kevin Cash said.
The Rays lost, 1-0, in 13 innings at the Oakland Coliseum to see their three-game winning streak come to a close.
Odorizzi, who is front and center in many trade rumors, hung all zeros on the scoreboard in his eight innings of work -- matching his longest career outing that took place April 15, 2015 at Toronto. Still, he came away with his Major League-leading 12th no-decision of the season.
"It seemed like he had everything going," Cash said. "The fastball-changeup combination seemed to be really good for him. ... He had a really good fastball. Looked like his fastball had some extra life, kind of like what we saw coming out of the break with Baltimore."
Odorizzi only had 10 no-decisions in 2015. In six of his no-decisions, he has allowed one run or less. Talk about hard luck, Odorizzi is 13-14 since 2015 and has received just 24 runs in his 14 losses.
Friday night he allowed no runs on five hits and struck out five before Xavier Cedeño took over to start the ninth. 
"Felt like [the fastball] came out with a little extra zip," Odorizzi said. "Located it well. Moved it in and out, up and down. Typically what I try to do from start to start. ... It was my first time throwing to [catcher] Luke [Maile]. I think we worked together really well today."
The best chance the A's had to score against him came in the eighth when Yonder Alonso reached on a fielding error by center fielder Kevin Kiermaier. Ryon Healy followed with a single to left to put runners at the corners. But Odorizzi got Danny Valencia to pop out to catcher Luke Maile in foul territory to end the threat.

Unfortunately for Odozizzi and the Rays, Oakland starter Sean Manaea was equally as sharp, matching Odorizzi with eight scoreless innings.
"It feels like you're off the mound and right back on it," said Odorizzi of the pitchers duel. "At 0-0, we just kept going back and forth. The game was really flying by for the most part until the extra innings.
"... I tried to match their guy pitch for pitch, inning for inning. Keep it 0-0 and give us a chance to win. So, I thought I did that. It makes my job a little bit easier when the defense plays as well as it did tonight."
