Rays recall Guilmet from Triple-A Durham

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays recalled right-handed pitcher Preston Guilmet from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Guilmet fills the roster spot of left-handed pitcher Enny Romero, who was optioned to Durham after the Rays' 8-2 loss to the Angels on Tuesday in which he allowed three runs in 2 1/3 innings.

"Preston is a guy who throws strikes," Rays manager Kevin Cash. "We'll probably in certain situations look to get multiple innings out of him. [He was the] right man, right timing. With what Enny provided last night, it was nice that even though we were down we didn't have to blow through the bullpen, and Preston adds that extra insurance coming in today."

In his only other stint with the Rays this season, Guilmet made one appearance in a 7-2 loss to the Athletics on May 24, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in two innings of work.

In an unrelated roster move, the Rays also activated right-handed pitcher Kirby Yates (strained right pectoral) from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Durham.
