Rays' Snell among Minors' top performers Friday

Tampa Bay's Class A Bowling Green prospects had an impressive night against Lansing. No. 5 prospect Casey Gillaspie, No. 11 Nick Ciuffo and No. 18 Justin Williams all homered in a 6-1 victory.

But it's understandable if fans were more excited about No. 10 prospect Blake Snell's pitching performance for Double-A Montgomery. The 22-year-old southpaw was just promoted from Class A Advanced Charlotte, where he managed a 3-0 record and 0.00 ERA in four starts.

Facing stiffer competition, Snell was just as good. He allowed just one hit in six innings of shutout work. The power pitcher also added eight strikeouts against one walk in an 11-1 win over Mississippi.

Snell is now 4-0 in five starts, and his perfect 0.00 ERA is still intact across two levels of Minor League play. One of the Rays' Compensation A selections in 2011, Snell's K/BB ratio sits at 2.92/1 -- the highest it's been since he pitched in Rookie ball three seasons ago.

More standout performances from Top 100 Prospects on Friday

• Pirates No. 1 prospect (No. 13 overall) Tyler Glasnow tossed six shutout innings to drop his season ERA down to 0.79. Glasnow (2-0) has been virtually untouchable all season, and has yet to give up more than five hits or one run in a start. Altoona teammate Josh Bell (Pirates No. 3 prospect, No. 34 overall) knocked in both runs in a 2-0 victory over Erie, and finished 3-for-4 with three singles.

• Twins No. 1 prospect (No. 1 overall) Byron Buxton is still red-hot. He went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in Double-A Chattanooga's 7-3 win over Jacksonville. The No. 2 overall pick in 2012 has hit in each of the past five contests (9-for-18 total) and his season line is now .263/.345/.421.

• Dodgers No. 1 prospect (No. 7 overall) Corey Seager was effective in his first game for Triple A-Oklahoma City. He notched an RBI single in first at-bat, and finished 2-for-5 in a 5-4 win against Iowa.

• Astros No. 1 prospect (No. 3 overall) Carlos Correa didn't pick up a hit, but still managed to steal three bases in Double-A Corpus Christi's 5-4 loss to Frisco. The Puerto Rican did his damage on the basepaths after walking twice on Friday, and now has eight stolen bags this season.

• Mariners No. 2 prospect D.J. Peterson provided the offense for No. 25 prospect Danny Hultzen in the pitcher's first start since 2013. Peterson, the No. 49 overall prospect,doubled in two first-inning runs to start the scoring, and finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Hultzen gave up one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings as Double-A Jackson beat up Pensacola, 8-3.

• Pirates No. 7 prospect Alen Hanson went 4-for-5 with four singles in Triple-A Indianapolis' 4-0 win over Lehigh Valley. Baseball's No. 90 overall prospect was overshadowed by Pittsburgh's No. 24 prospect Adrian Sampson, who gave up zero runs and four hits in seven innings of work. The pitcher collected his first win of the season (now 1-3), and cut his ERA to 2.45.

Other notable performances from around the Minor Leagues

• White Sox No. 10 prospect Carlos Sanchez had as good of a night as a hitter can have without picking up an RBI. The Triple-A Charlotte shortstop went 5-for-5 with two doubles, but none of those hits resulted in runs during a 5-4 loss to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This continues an odd trend for Sanchez: he's 9-for-14 over the past three games with a goose egg in the RBI column. On the year, he's hitting .378/.400/.476 with eight RBIs.

• Padres No. 11 prospect Zech Lemond racked up six strikeouts against one walk for Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore in the Storm's 6-2 win over High Desert. The righty gave up one unearned run in seven innings, and has cut his ERA from 6.19 to 4.00 over his past two starts.

• Mariners Class A affiliate Clinton completed a team no-hitter on Friday night, its first no-no since the late Victor Sanchez went all nine innings in 2013. Starting pitcher Daniel Missaki was perfect through six innings before giving up a walk in the seventh, while relievers Kody Kerski and Troy Scott polished off Cedar Rapids in the eighth and ninth for a 2-0 victory.

• Reds No. 30 prospect Mark Armstrong picked up his first win in five tries. The righty gave up four hits and no runs in six innings of work for Class A Dayton in a 6-2 win against Great Lakes. Armstrong is now 1-1 with a 2.31 ERA, and has surrendered just one earned run in the past 12 1/3 innings.
