BALTIMORE-- Rays right fielder Steven Souza Jr. injured his right elbow leaping up onto the outfield wall to try and catch a home run ball in the sixth inning of a 6-3 loss to the Orioles on Monday night.
X-rays showed no broken bones for the 28-year-old -- whose birthday was Monday -- but his status for Tuesday remains unclear.
Souza jumped up the right-field wall to corral an eventual home run ball off the bat of Hyun Soo Kim, couldn't reach it and banged his elbow on the way down. He was on deck when the game's final out was made, but said he would not have batted. Souza added that he will "see how everything feels in the morning."

"My elbow got caught on the back side, just kind of slammed into the bar behind the pad [over the wall]," Souza said. "It's a bruise on the bone on the inside."
Souza said the elbow was really tight, the reason why the Rays would have gone to a pinch-hitter in the ninth, if the chance had come.
"I think he's pretty sore," manager Kevin Cash said. "Some sort of contusion that we'll monitor, and see how he feels coming in tomorrow."
The Rays are hoping to have Souza back sooner rather than later: The right fielder entered Monday hitting .347 this season (26-for-75), with four homers and 17 RBIs. Souza is fresh off a week during which he hit .414 with four multi-hit games during a seven-game hit streak, earning American League Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
