A corresponding move will take place prior to Thursday's game against the Mariners at Tropicana Field.

Bauers, 22, is the Rays' No. 5 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, and he is having a solid season for the Bulls. In 52 games, he is hitting .279/.358/.426 with five homers and 24 RBIs.

Bauers, who stands 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, has opened eyes with his bat during Spring Training stints with the Major League club the past two springs. He spent all of the 2017 season at Durham, where he hit .263 with 13 home runs and 63 RBIs.

Bauers hits left-handed. He has extraordinary plate discipline along with a knack for barreling the ball with a compact swing.

A seventh-round Draft pick from the California prep ranks in 2013, Bauers made an impressive full-season debut the following year that caught the attention of the Rays, who acquired him from San Diego after the season as part of the Wil Myers trade.

Bauers continued to move quickly in 2015, advancing to Double-A at age 19 and then turning in a strong showing as the Arizona Fall League's youngest player. Bauers built on that success in his return to the Southern League in 2016, establishing career highs in most offensive categories, and he was solid yet again in '17 as one of the Triple-A International League's youngest players.

Bill Chastain has covered the Rays for MLB.com since 2005.
