Pipeline Preview: Adames looks to stay hot in June

June 29th, 2017

Here's a look at top prospects to watch in today's Minor League action:
Hitter to watch: (Rays' No. 1), Durham at Indianapolis (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
After batting just .230/.309/.344 during the first two months of the season, Adames, MLB Pipeline's No. 16 overall prospect, has caught fire in June to post a .372/.459/.585 batting line with 11 extra-base hits in 25 games. That hot streak has helped the 21-year-old shortstop improve his overall season to .278/.361/.426 through 71 games for Triple-A Durham.

Pitcher to watch: Jaime Barria (Angels' No. 8), Mobile at Jacksonville (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Barria went the distance for the first time in his career in his last start, as he tossed a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for Double-A Mobile in game one of a doubleheader against Tennessee. The 20-year-old righty retired his final 16 batters en route facing one over the minimum in the seven-inning game. He's posted a 0.92 ERA in 19 2/3 innings (three starts) since being promoted to Double-A.

Duel of the day: Brent Honeywell (Rays' No. 2) vs. (Pirates' No. 8), Durham at Indianapolis (7:05 p.m. ET on MiLB.TV)
Honeywell, No. 23 on the Top 100, has been inconsistent since joining Durham, posting a 4.87 ERA with a .280 opponents' average in 68 1/3 innings spanning 13 starts. The 22-year-old righty has fared better of late, allowing three or fewer earned runs while going 3-1 in his last four starts. Despite his struggles, Honeywell owns an impressive 103-to-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 81 1/3 innings, during which he's averaging 11.4 strikeouts-per-nine.

Brault started slowly for Indianapolis before turning the corner in May, when he turned in five starts with one or fewer earned runs en route to a 2-0 record with a 1.26 ERA. He's continued to roll in June, too, with a 4-0 record with a 1.73 ERA in four starts (five appearances). With a 2.24 ERA and a .222 opponents' average in 80 1/3 innings this season, the 25-year-old left-hander seems poised to return to the Majors at some point in 2017.
