Ready to test toe, Snider begins rehab stint

SAN DIEGO -- Travis Snider began his rehab assignment with Double-A Altoona on Monday. The outfielder played right field and went 1-for-3 with a run scored in the afternoon game of a doubleheader as he recovers from a toe injury.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Snider needed to test the toe with game action.

"He is good to go and wants to see how good he is to go now," Hurdle said. "We did all the testing we can with running and with him taking BP, shagging balls off bats, so he needs to get in the box. We'll know more information this week as he starts to play."

Snider has been out since July 28 with the injury, which has been described as similar to turf toe. The club does not have a timetable for Snider's return but could benefit from adding him to the team soon, having just optioned outfielder Andrew Lambo to Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday to bring up pitcher Kris Wilson.
