Red Sox activate left-handed pitcher Edwin Escobar from 15-day disabled list

BOSTON, MA - Following today's game, the Boston Red Sox activated left-handed pitcher Edwin Escobar from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Escobar, 23, began the season on the disabled list due to left elbow inflammation. He threw 3.0 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in a two-game rehab assignment between Single-A Greenville (1.0 inning on Tuesday) and Triple-A Pawtucket (2.0 innings yesterday). Last season, he made his major league debut with two outings over three stints with the Red Sox, allowing one run in 2.0 innings (4.50 ERA). Originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an international free agent in 2008, he was acquired by Boston from the San Francisco Giants on July 26, 2014.
