The Boston Red Sox today activated second baseman Ian Kinsler from the 10-day disabled list. The club also placed third baseman Rafael Devers on the 10-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain, retroactive to yesterday, August 16.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Kinsler, 36, missed 11 games after being placed on the disabled list on August 4 with a left hamstring strain. Acquired from the Los Angeles Angels on July 30, the second baseman has gone 4-for-10 with two stolen bases, three runs scored, and two RBIs in three games with the Red Sox. In 54 games since May 29, he has hit .292 (61-for-209) with an .870 OPS, including .414 (24-for-58) with a 1.106 OPS in his last 16 games. Kinsler won the American League's Rawlings Gold Glove Award for second base in 2016 and was once again a finalist for the award in 2017. Selected by Texas in the 17th round of the 2003 June Draft, he has been named to four American League All-Star teams (2008, '10, '12, '14) and has finished in the top 30 in MVP voting four times.
Devers, 21, made his first career Opening Day roster and has spent the entire 2018 season with the major league club. In 102 games, he has hit .242 (94-for-389) with 47 runs scored, 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and 55 RBIs, making 99 starts at third base and one as the designated hitter. The left-handed hitter has reached base via hit or walk in each of his last 11 games since July 23, going 11-for-41 (.268) with an .838 OPS in that time. Originally signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent in 2013, the Dominican-born third baseman has a .257 career batting average (157-for-611) with 36 doubles, 26 home runs, and 85 RBIs over 160 games.
