Red Sox bring balance into Spring Training
Pitching additions designed to support Boston's strong offense
As MLB.com's Spring Training primer continues, it's time to take a look at how the pieces will fit together for the Red Sox.
The starting lineup has all the same faces you remember from last year, but a realistic projection for improvement from the talented young core. There are also some determined veterans looking to bounce back from shaky first seasons in Boston.
The marquee new additions are on the pitching staff, where president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski added a new ace (David Price) and closer (Craig Kimbrel).

The main thing the Red Sox are looking for in 2016 is balance. They want any area of the club to be able to lead the way to victory on a given night.
"When you look over the last two years, we've been strong in one area and not been able to balance it out on the other side of the ball," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "And when you look at a team that's coming off a 2015 season in which it was fifth in the Majors in runs scored, that's a team that should, I think, even improve on that without additions and that means that Hanley [Ramirez] and Pablo [Sandoval] are big contributors in that way.
"When you combine the arms that Dave's been able to bring in, now it's a team that projects to be very strong offensively and on the mound."
