Red Sox Announce Additional Recipients of the "100 Acts of Kindness"
New London Homeless Hospitality Center and The Women’s Lunch Place to be Beneficiaries of the 21st and 22nd Acts
BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation today announced that New London Homeless Hospitality Center in New London, CT, and The Women’s Lunch Place of Boston, MA are the 21st and 22nd recipients of the “100 Acts of Kindness,” a program that recognizes and supports the work of charitable organizations throughout New England during Fenway Park’s 100th anniversary season. The total number of recipients of the “100 Acts of Kindness” now totals 22.
On Tuesday, May 8, from 3:30pm-4:00pm. the club’s entire Business Operations department will be at the New London Homeless Hospitality Center (NLHHC) in New London, CT to drop off assorted clothing and other accessories for guests at the center. The drop off will include T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants and socks. The NLHHC began as a coalition of citizens, faith communities, and service organizations who were seeking to provide a place of hospitality for their homeless neighbors. It has grown to become organized as a not-for-profit organization, working to become a regional resource for the homeless and a safe and welcome place for them. It also provides guests the support they need to move into permanent housing.
On Monday, May 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Red Sox Wives and members of the Front Office will visit The Women’s Lunch Place to assist with kitchen prep, wrap up breakfast and participate in games with guests before serving lunch to everyone. They will be joined by Red Sox Day of Game staffer Mattie Richards who spearheaded this visit. Mattie is a former beneficiary of the Women’s Lunch Place, and a current volunteer. The Red Sox Foundation has also recently made a $25,000 grant to The Women’s Lunch Place, which provides a safe, comfortable daytime shelter, nutritious food and services for women who are homeless or poor. The Women’s Lunch Place provides dignity and respect for all guests and strives to foster a community committed to meeting each woman’s individual needs.
About the 100 Acts of Kindness: As a way to highlight and support the important work done by the many charitable institutions throughout New England and beyond, the Red Sox are engaging in “100 Acts of Kindness” with various not-for-profit organizations during the 100th anniversary season of Fenway Park in 2012. These acts will take on a number of different forms, including donations, volunteer efforts, and hosting community events. Each act will be designed to highlight organizations and causes throughout New England. Red Sox ownership, players, alumni, and staff will participate. Additional acts will be announced throughout 2012, culminating with 100 by the end of this 100th Anniversary year.
