Red Sox announce personnel moves in baseball operations

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today announced several personnel moves in the baseball operations department:

Eddie Romero was promoted to Vice President, International Scouting.
Adrian Lorenzo was named Coordinator, International Scouting.
Brad Sloan was hired as a Special Assignment Scout.
Harrison Slutsky was promoted to Coordinator, Advance Scouting.
Alex Gimenez was hired as Assistant, Professional Scouting.

President of Baseball Operations David Dombrowski made the announcement.

Romero, 35, is currently in his 10th year in the Red Sox organization. Since 2012, the native of San Juan, Puerto Rico has served as the club's Director of International Scouting. He began his career as a prosecutor in Jacksonville, FL, before joining the Red Sox in 2006 as an assistant in international and professional scouting. Romero has also worked for the Red Sox as coordinator and assistant director of Latin American operations, and assistant director of Latin American Operations/International Scouting. Romero holds a bachelor's degree in sports management and a juris doctor degree from the University of Florida. His father, Ed Romero Sr., was an infielder with the Red Sox from 1986-89.

Lorenzo, 26, is in his third year in the Red Sox organization. For the 2015 season, the Miami, FL native served as a major league staff assistant, working specifically with the coaching staff in advance scouting and as the team's instant replay coordinator. In addition, he served as a Spanish-language translator for Red Sox players at the major league level in 2015 and for part of the 2014 season. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team, Lorenzo started with the Red Sox in 2013 as a player development department intern in Fort Myers, FL. In 2014, he was a baseball operations intern working in the areas of international scouting and player personnel.

Sloan, 59, joins the Red Sox organization with over 35 years of scouting experience in Major League Baseball. Most recently, he served as a major league scout for the Atlanta Braves for the last three seasons (since 2013). Prior to his stint with the Braves, he spent nine years as a major league scout for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2004-12). The majority of his scouting experience has come in the San Diego Padres organization where he worked for 23 years (1980-92; 1994-2003) over two stints with the club, holding titles of area scout, area supervisor, and national crosschecker. Sloan, a native of Brimfield, IL, has also worked as a national crosschecker in the New York Mets organization (1993).

Slutsky, 25, is in his fourth year in the Red Sox organization. For the last two seasons, the Canton, MA native served the club as assistant, advance scouting, working on a daily basis with the Red Sox major league coaching staff. A Columbia University graduate with a degree in Economics-Political Science, Slutsky began his Red Sox career as a baseball operations intern in 2012 and as an advance scouting intern in 2013. A right-handed pitcher, he was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team at Columbia.

Gimenez, 22, most recently served as an intern in Major League Baseball's labor relations department for part of the 2015 season. A native of Miami, FL, Gimenez began his career in baseball in the Cleveland Indians organization as a business analytics intern in 2014. He is a 2015 graduate of Cornell University where he earned a degree in industrial labor relations.

Dave Klipstein, who served as a special assignment scout for the 2015 season and as a major league scout for the club from 2012-14, has left the organization.
