Red Sox don pink for Mother's Day

ARLINGTON -- Several Boston hitters used pink bats and sported pink undershirts, cleats and wristbands as part of Sunday's Mother's Day celebration and to promote breast cancer awareness.

Shane Victorino, David Ortiz, Jonny Gomes, A.J. Pierzynski and Jackie Bradley Jr. all swung pink-painted lumber. Victorino even had two sets of pink cleats to choose from in his locker.

Will Middlebrooks was scratched from the lineup with a sore hand, but said before the game that he enjoyed the annual celebration.

"It's something special we get to do once a year," Middlebrooks said. "It's a cool thing -- you get to do something different and do something for Mom and breast cancer."
