Red Sox recall OF Jackie Bradley Jr. and RHP Steven Wright

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and right-handed pitcher Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for them on the 25-man roster, outfielder Allen Craig and left-handed pitcher Robbie Ross Jr. were optioned to Pawtucket after yesterday's game in Toronto. Both Bradley and Wright will be available for this afternoon's series finale against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre at 1:07 p.m.

Bradley, 25, joins the Red Sox for his second stint in the majors this season. He was recalled on April 28, but did not appear in the game and was optioned back to Pawtucket postgame. With the PawSox this season, the left-handed batter has hit .343 (34-for-99) with nine doubles, one home run, nine RBI, and 12 runs scored in 24 games. He has hit safely in each of his last seven games at a .467 clip (14-for-30) with six multi-hit games. Defensively, Bradley appeared in 22 games for Pawtucket in center field and two times in right. For his major league career, he has hit .196 (94-for-479) with 24 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 40 RBI in 164 games, all for Boston (2013-14).

Wright, 30, will begin his third stint in the majors with Boston this season. The right-handed knuckleballer made the Red Sox' 2015 Opening Day roster, the first of his career. Wright was recalled a second time on April 27, but did not appear in that game and was optioned back postgame. Wright earned the win in his only big league appearance of the season, going the final five innings of Boston's 19-inning victory over the Yankees in New York on April 10. With Pawtucket, he has worked out of the starting rotation and is 2-1 with a 3.24 ERA (9 ER/25.0 IP) with 26 strikeouts in four starts. He has won each of his last two starts while posting a 0.64 ERA (1 ER/14.0 IP) with five walks compared to 14 strikeouts. Over his major league career, Wright has gone 3-1 with a 3.66 ERA (16 ER/39.1 IP) in 11 games (two starts), all with Boston (2013-15).

Craig, 30, is in his first full season with the Red Sox after being acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals on July 31, 2014. In 24 games for Boston this season he has hit .135 (7-for-52) with one home run, two RBI, and five runs scored. Defensively, Craig has made 10 starts for Boston this year, with five in right field, four in left field, and one at first base. For his big league career, the right-handed hitter has batted .278 (501-for-1,804) with 106 doubles, three triples, 59 home runs, 295 RBI, and 238 runs scored in 522 games between St. Louis (2010-14) and Boston (2014-15). Through games played yesterday, Craig's .354 (136-for-384) batting average with runners in scoring position is second-highest among major league players over the last four seasons (2012-15).

Ross, 25, is in his first season with the Red Sox after being acquired via trade with the Texas Rangers on January 27 of this year. In his 13 relief appearances this year for Boston, he has a 6.17 ERA (8 ER/11.2) with no record, four walks, and seven strikeouts. Ross, who made the Red Sox' Opening Day roster this season, has gone 13-8 with a 4.10 ERA (99 ER/217.1 IP) and 163 strikeouts in 163 games (12 starts) between the Rangers (2012-14) and Red Sox (2015) over his major league career. As a reliever in the big leagues, Ross is 12-2 with a 3.49 ERA (61 ER/157.1 IP) and 121 strikeouts in 151 games.
