Red Sox recall outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket

Option right-handed pitcher Steven Wright to Pawtucket

The Boston Red Sox today recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Steven Wright was optioned to Pawtucket. Bradley will be available for tonight's game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park beginning at 6:10 p.m.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

For Bradley, 25, this is his first major league stint of the season. The left-handed batter began the year with Triple-A Pawtucket, where he has hit .315 (23-for-73) with nine runs, seven doubles, six RBI, and six walks in 18 games. In 164 career major league games, all with the Red Sox from 2013-14, Bradley has hit .196 (94-for-479) with 63 runs scored, 24 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 40 RBI, 41 walks, and 10 stolen bases. He played 127 games for Boston last season and was a finalist for the 2014 Rawlings Gold Glove Award in centerfield after recording 13 assists in only 125 games in the outfield. He was also involved in eight double plays in 2014, five more than any other major league outfielder and the most by any rookie since 1968. A supplemental first-round selection in the 2011 June Draft (40th overall), he has hit .292 (280-for-958) with 77 doubles, seven triples, 21 home runs, and 112 RBI in 250 career minor league games from 2011-15.

Wright, 30, was recalled yesterday for his second major league stint of the season but did not appear in last night's win over the Blue Jays. The right-handed knuckleballer, who began the year on Boston's Opening Day roster, made his only 2015 major league appearance on April 10, allowing two runs over the final 5.0 innings of the club's 19-inning game in New York to earn the win against the Yankees. In two starts with the PawSox this year, he is 0-1 with a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP) and 12 strikeouts. Wright has 11 games of major league experience (two starts), all with the Red Sox from 2013-15, and has combined to go 3-1 with a 3.66 ERA (16 ER/39.1 IP).
