Red Sox recall right-handed pitcher Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket

BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox today recalled right-handed pitcher Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket. Workman will be active for tonight's game at Yankee Stadium beginning at 7:05 p.m.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

For Workman, 26, this marks his fourth stint with the Red Sox this season. He is 1-8 with a 4.93 ERA (40 ER/73.0 IP), 28 walks, and 56 strikeouts in 16 outings for Boston, including 12 starts. The right-hander made one start for Pawtucket after being optioned on August 24, throwing 6.2 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts. It marked his sixth straight win with the PawSox beginning on May 12. Over three stints with Pawtucket this season, he had a 7-1 record and a 4.11 ERA (28 ER/61.1 IP) with 55 strikeouts compared to 17 walks. The native of Arlington, TX was signed by the Red Sox as a second-round selection in the 2010 June Draft.    

With today's move, Boston's active major league roster is now at 29.
