Price progresses to scheduled BP session

April 7th, 2017

DETROIT -- is expected to take a significant step in his recovery from a left elbow strain Monday at Comerica Park, where he's scheduled to throw his first bullpen session. Price has not been on a mound since feeling the elbow strain in a simulated game on Feb. 28.
Price had a light day of work in Detroit on Friday, but he will move his long-toss program out to 120 feet this weekend.
"He'll begin to spin some breaking balls on flat ground," manager John Farrell said. "He'll make progress per the schedule that's in place."
The Red Sox have not assigned a timetable for Price's return to a Major League game, but his slow progress and the need for what amounts to a Spring Training-like allotment of starts to build up endurance means he'll miss all of April.
Also on the pitching schedule front:
• Reliever (right shoulder) is still awaiting clearance to pick up a ball, but Farrell said that could happen as soon as Monday.
"The strength gains continue to be made," Farrell said.

• In advance of his season debut Tuesday against the Orioles, (left forearm) will throw in Detroit before Saturday's game, preferably a batting practice session.
"We're trying to fit that into a tight BP schedule," Farrell said. "At minimum, it'll be an extended bullpen [session] with guys tracking against him. It'll be one of those two work sessions for him, and that keeps everybody else in our rotation on their normal turn."
