Red Sox select second baseman Nick Yorke with first pick (17th overall) in 2020 June draft

The Boston Red Sox selected second baseman Nick Yorke out of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, CA, with their first pick (1st round, 17th overall) in the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Wednesday night. 

Red Sox Director of Amateur Scouting Paul Toboni made the announcement.

Yorke, 18, is a six-foot, 195-pound right-handed hitter. After batting .370 (37-for-100) as a freshman, he hit a combined .503 (97-for-193) in his final three seasons. He played in only five games before the 2020 season was suspended, going 8-for-15 (.533) with two home runs. In 363 career plate appearances, Yorke drew 53 walks and struck out only 26 times. His brother, Joe, was a freshman on the Boise State University baseball team in 2020.
