Red Sox Service Scholarships for Connecticut to be Announced at Fenway Park Sunday; Winner of Red Sox Foundation "Impact Awards" in Connecticut to be Recognized
Red Sox Foundation to Present 15 Connecticut Public School Seniors With $1,000 College Scholarships During Connecticut Day presented by Foxwoods Resort Casino at Fenway Park
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Red Sox will introduce the recipients of the Red Sox Service Scholarships from Connecticut during ceremonies before the game against the Yankees at Fenway Park this Sunday, July 12.
The Red Sox Service Scholarships program in Connecticut awards students from 15 public high schools with $1,000 college scholarships. Students are chosen based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility, and most importantly, demonstrated community service.
The Service Scholarships program was launched in New Hampshire in 2010 and is now in all New England states outside of Massachusetts. This year is the second straight that scholarships have been offered in Connecticut. The program was expanded from 10 students in 2014 to 15 this year.
On the field to honor the Connecticut students on Sunday will be ENEOS Group Manager J. Kevin Traywick, Red Sox Chief Operating Officer Sam Kennedy, Red Sox Executive Vice President & Senior Advisor to the President/CEO Dr. Charles Steinberg, and Red Sox Foundation Executive Director Gena Borson.
The foundation will also honor the Connecticut winner of the "IMPACT Awards" (Inspiring More Philanthropy Across Charities Together), a new program that provides Red Sox fans in the five New England states outside of Massachusetts with the opportunity to vote for their favorite local non-profits to decide which charities will be awarded grants.
Camp Rising Sun Charitable Foundation of CT, created to provide a safe, nurturing environment for kids who have faced the diagnosis of cancer, is the winner of the Connecticut IMPACT Award and will receive a $10,000 grant from the Red Sox Foundation during Sunday's pregame ceremonies.
The July 12 ceremonies are part of Connecticut Day presented by Foxwoods Resort Casino at Fenway Park. The national anthem will be sung by Michael Grillo of Preston, Connecticut. Members of the Connecticut State Police Honor Guard will carry the colors and representatives of the Wheelock Clinic of Plainville will say "Play ball."
