KANSAS CITY -- The Red Sox have signed their first-round selection from last week's Draft, reaching agreement with University of Missouri right-hander Tanner Houck for $2,614,500, the slotted value for the 24th overall selection.
Houck will soon be in uniform, as the Red Sox announced he will report to short-season Class A Lowell.
This will give Boston fans an easy chance to get a look at Houck, as Lowell is 30 miles north of Fenway Park.
"Super excited," Houck said last week after getting picked by Boston. "Team with great history. Obviously they're one of the top teams in the entire league right now. They've been great through numerous years. I'm honored to be a Boston Red Sox and super excited to get started."
In his junior season at Missouri, Houck went 4-7 with a 3.33 ERA, notching 95 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings and holding opponents to a .220 batting average.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder has been clocked up to 98-mph and has good sink on his fastball.
"Tanner is a pitcher we have scouted and got to know for the past few years pitching not only at Missouri but also in the summers and we were very excited. We think he has a chance to be a very good starting pitcher for the Red Sox," Red Sox amateur scouting director Mike Rikard said last week.
It has been a productive week following the Draft for the Red Sox, who have signed five of their 40 selections.
The club also signed first baseman Zach Sterry (eighth round), infielder Tanner Nishioka (ninth round), outfielder Jordan Wren (10th round) and right-hander Lukas Young (21st round).
