Benintendi could rejoin lineup mid-week

Red Sox rookie left fielder to hit in sim game Tuesday

September 10th, 2016

TORONTO -- Red Sox left fielder will get roughly six at-bats in a sim game at Fenway Park on Tuesday against and some other teammates, which could be his final step before being activated.
Benintendi, who gave the Red Sox a big spark after his recall from Double-A Portland on Aug. 1, has been out since spraining his left knee Aug. 24.
The Red Sox had hoped to get Benintendi in a Minor League game or two before his activation, but all their affiliates are now out of the playoffs.

"When we get home is when we'll run him through some sliding," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "We've got a taxi squad here. We can build that sim game out. Once we get through and get him through half a dozen at-bats at least on Tuesday, we might be in a position where we could see him on the field shortly after that."
With that timetable, Benintendi could be back in Boston's lineup by Wednesday's game against the Orioles or Thursday's opener of a four-game series against the Yankees.
Rated Boston's No. 2 prospect by MLB Pipeline.com, Benintendi slashed .324/.365/.485 in his first 21 games in the Majors.
and have been sharing playing time in left field during Benintendi's absence.
