Devers to represent Red Sox in Futures Game

June 29th, 2017

BOSTON -- Third baseman Rafael Devers was selected on Thursday to represent the Red Sox as part of the World Team in the 2017 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.
Devers, 20, is Boston's No. 1 prospect and the No. 1 prospect among all third basemen, according to MLBPipeline.com. The Red Sox acquired the Dominican prospect as an international free agent in 2013.
"I know that Rafael's got a lot of attention on him for obvious reasons," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "He's one of the best-looking young prospects in all of pro baseball. To see his name on that roster is not a complete surprise. Through these opportunities to perform in that setting, on that stage, goes a long way in his dealing with some of the notoriety that's going to continue to come his way."

This season with Double-A Portland, Devers is hitting .298 with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs through 67 games. These offensive numbers earned Devers a spot in the 2017 Eastern League All-Star Game, which was announced earlier this week.
This will be Devers' second appearance in the Futures Game; he also played for the 2015 World Team in Cincinnati.
The Futures Game, now in its 19th year, features the top Minor League prospects from all 30 teams competing in a nine-inning game during All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 11-7.
The 2017 Futures Game takes place on Sunday, July 9, at 4 p.m. ET at Marlins Park in Miami and can be viewed live on MLB Network and MLB.com.
