CINCINNATI -- Plenty of wishes seemed to come true for Reds left fielder in 2016. Duvall not only secured a regular spot in the lineup during the season, he also became a first-time All-Star for the National League.
The 28-year-old Duvall, who hit 33 home runs with 103 RBIs last season, also got engaged over Thanksgiving to his girlfriend, Michelle.
And just before the calendar year ends, Duvall took part in what has become an annual MLB.com tradition -- answering questions about the holiday season.
MLB.com: You will be spending the holidays at home in Louisville, Ky. What makes Louisville enjoyable for you during this time of year?
Duvall: Louisville is a very festive town. We've got some different Christmas light shows, I like going to the lights under the cavern. It kind of gets you in the Christmas mood. Another big thing is that my whole family is there. That's the biggest thing for me, during Thanksgiving and Christmas, is family. That's the time when you can get everybody together, eat some good food and reminisce over the year. It's important for me to be around my family.
MLB.com: Is there a Duvall holiday tradition?
Duvall: My grandmother cooks unbelievable food. We all can't wait for Thanksgiving and Christmas, because she is such a good cook.
MLB.com: Do you have a holiday wish list? Or is there anything you want to get someone?
Duvall: I think the biggest thing for me is to get Angel Tree gifts and try to give back. Me and my fiancée have been blessed in many ways. That's our big thing this year. They're just kids. You can get them jackets, clothes, toys -- whatever they need depending on their age. It's so they have something to open on Christmas.
MLB.com: Do you have a favorite holiday movie?
Duvall: Maybe "Christmas Vacation." I'm not a huge movie guy, because I usually fall asleep through them.
MLB.com: Do you have a holiday wish for Reds fans next season?
Duvall: My wish would be to make the playoffs for these fans. I think they would deeply enjoy that. It would be good. It's easy to say, "Oh, win a World Series," but I think it's just get into the playoffs. Then anything can happen. I was on a 2014 Giants team, and we sneaked in. We won the Wild Card Game and ended up winning the World Series. Focus on getting into the playoffs, then go from there.
MLB.com: If you were to buy a teammate a gift, mainly as a gag, what would you get and for whom?
Duvall: I think it would be , and I think it would be a donkey. He likes donkeys. Donkeys are the ones that live super long? They call it a lifetime companion. He had talked about how he wanted one, but was probably kidding. But he does love donkeys.
