Mesoraco confirmed safe after Maddon's challenge

CINCINNATI -- The Rays challenged a ruling in the seventh inning of Sunday's 12-4 loss to the Reds.

Rays manager Joe Maddon believed Devin Mesoraco was out at first base when the Reds' catcher was called safe on a bang-bang play with no outs.

Subsequently, the play was reviewed and confirmed for a Mesoraco infield single that loaded the bases.

The review took 49 seconds.

Tampa Bay is 0-3 on challenges during the current road trip and 2-3 on the season.

"Challenged and lost, that happens, that happens in life all the time, you just got to keep challenging," Maddon said.
