PITTSBURGH -- Reds shortstop Zack Cozart left in the eighth inning of Sunday's 6-5, 11-inning win over the Pirates with tendinitis in his right knee and is day to day.
Cozart hit a ball over the head of Pirates right fielder Gregory Polanco, which was ruled a two-base error, and pulled up in discomfort as he got to second base. After consulting with the trainer and Reds manager Bryan Price, he was removed from the game.
"It's just tendinitis," Price said. "It's going to be something that's going to be an issue until that knee is completely 100 percent healed and functioning as it should.
"But he had a major surgery, and I do believe that some tendinitis and some soreness are going to be present periodically."
Cozart underwent surgery last June after tearing a tendon and two ligaments in his right knee. For the season, Cozart is hitting .347 with two home runs and nine RBIs.
The 30-year-old hurt the knee when he slipped on first base while trying to beat out a grounder during a 5-2 win over the Phillies on June 10, 2015.
