CINCINNATI -- The Reds and Anthony DeSclafani had hoped the right-hander would be able to make his first start of the season on Sunday. Those hopes have been delayed.<o:p>

Manager Bryan Price said Friday that there haven't been any setbacks in DeSclafani's recovery from a left oblique strain suffered last month, but he's not yet 100 percent and won't pitch against Pittsburgh in the weekend series finale. DeSclafani, who went 9-13 last season as a rookie in 31 starts (184 2/3 innings), was scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday at Great American Ball Park, but that has been put on hold.

"There's no setbacks. He's not worse, he didn't do everything," said Price. "If he really does something to that oblique, it could be an extended period of time missed. We're so close to feeling like he's 100 percent that we're just not going to take the chance.<o:p>

"We had hoped to get to that point, and he's done all of the MRI. It's healing, there's scar tissue, everything is moving in the right direction, but it still feels by our medical staff and all of us involved that it's just not 100 percent yet."<o:p>

DeSclafani was placed on the 15-day disabled list to begin this season, retroactive to March 25. He is eligible to come off the DL on Sunday. Price said DeSclafani will likely throw a bullpen session next Wednesday in Chicago when the Reds visit the Cubs.<o:p>

Sunday's starter has not yet been named. Price said he will announce the starter after Friday's game.<o:p>

DeSclafani is one of five pitchers who have started the season on the DL for the Reds. Homer Bailey (elbow) and John Lamb (back) are in Arizona at extended spring training. Each threw two innings of simulated games on Wednesday. Michael Lorenzen (elbow) is dealing with a bout of mononucleosis as well as his physical ailments.<o:p>

Jon Moscot (intercostal) pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings for Class A Advanced Daytona Thursday night. He was removed from the game as a precaution after a blister began forming on his right thumb. Moscot returned to Cincinnati on Friday. He is scheduled to make another rehab start at Triple-A Louisville on April 12. If all goes well, he'll make his season debut on April 17 at St. Louis.<o:p>

"Everything was good. The side, which is why I was there, was non-existent," said Moscot. "I felt really good. I think I've got one more start. I'm looking forward to that and then getting back out here."<o:p>
