Reds reportedly trading Chapman to Dodgers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- On Monday morning it appeared the Dodgers had landed closer Aroldis Chapman from the Reds for a pair of prospects, with multiple outlets reporting a trade had been made. As the day progressed, however, no deal was announced, lending credence to reports that another team could be interested or that there could be a three-team trade in the works.

The reported deal -- which neither club confirmed -- had not been announced as of Monday afternoon, and sources told MLB.com that "multiple teams" could be in the mix.

Chapman is under club control through 2016 and can become a free agent after the upcoming season.

Chapman, who will turn 28 on Feb. 28, has compiled a 2.17 career ERA and 146 saves in 164 chances with 546 strikeouts in 319 innings during his six seasons in Cincinnati. He can be a free agent following the 2016 season.

After he earned $8.05 million in 2015, Chapman is projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to get $12.9 million in arbitration, as he is eligible for arbitration for a third and final time. With the Reds rebuilding following a 98-loss season, the left-hander might be a pricey luxury to have in the back end of the bullpen.

If he does go to Los Angeles, Chapman would join current Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen to form a formidable duo in the back end of their bullpen.

Jansen held down the ninth inning for the Dodgers in 2015, compiling a 2.41 ERA with 36 saves and 80 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings.
