MILWAUKEE -- The Reds will activate pitcher Jon Moscot from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday to start vs. the Rockies. For the four-game series at Colorado, the rotation will feature Dan Straily on Monday, followed by Moscot, John Lamb on Wednesday and Alfredo Simon.
Moscot is taking the spot that belonged to rookie Daniel Wright for one start. Wright was in the bullpen for Sunday's game vs. the Brewers.
"With the way the bullpen has been used here and the challenges we have today, it helps to have Wright available," Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday morning. "That's one of the things that played into this. Daniel Wright hasn't pitched himself out of the rotation. I've got to have him available today."
Wright made his big league debut in Tuesday's 8-2 loss to the Dodgers and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Moscot last started for the Reds on April 27 vs. the Mets but was bothered by inflammation in his surgically-repaired left non-throwing shoulder. He's made three rehab assignment starts for Triple-A Louisville, including six scoreless innings on Thursday. Straily, who was originally scheduled for Tuesday, is still working on his regular four days of rest after he pitched Wednesday vs. the Dodgers and struck out 11 over seven innings in a 3-1 loss.
An unused Wright could potentially still pitch in the rotation at Colorado. Both Lamb and Simon have struggled this season. Lamb allowed six earned runs over 3 2/3 innings on Friday vs. Milwaukee, and Simon could be facing punishment after being ejected Saturday for intentionally hitting pitcher Chase Anderson.
"I'm going to leave it ambiguous if you don't mind," Price said of his plans.
