Duvall, Negron hurt in Reds' loss to Pirates

CINCINNATI -- In rather quick succession, the Reds lost two left fielders -- Adam Duvall and Kristopher Negron -- to injuries during Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Pirates.

"We had a hard time staying healthy out there in left today," manager Bryan Price said.

The starting left fielder, Duvall, was hit on the left leg by a Francisco Liriano pitch in the fourth inning. He remained in the game until he was lifted in a double switch before the top of the sixth. The Reds announced that he has a contusion on his left knee but that X-rays revealed no fractures.

Duvall's replacement, Negron, began the seventh inning by making a spectacular diving catch that robbed Starling Marte of extra bases. But it proved to be a costly catch, as he remained on the ground in pain. After being looked over by the team trainer and Price, Negron left the game and was later diagnosed with a partially separated left shoulder.

"I think it will probably be more likely that we'll get a better result from the Duvall injury than Negron. Hopefully, neither one is a lengthy absence," Price said.

Negron had just arrived from Triple-A Louisville earlier in the day as a September callup and was back in the big leagues for the first time since June 24. He struggled in the Minors, batting .216 in 59 games, after batting .141 in 42 games for the Reds after making the team out of Spring Training.

Duvall was acquired in the July 30 trade that sent pitcher Mike Leake to the Giants. He was promoted from Louisville on Aug. 31 and went 2-for-7 in five games.
