GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Reds already revealed on Thursday that Bronson Arroyo would make his Cactus League debut on Sunday vs. the Brewers. On Friday, it was learned who Arroyo's battery mate would be.
Catcher Devin Mesoraco will also be making his spring debut vs. Milwaukee in the split-squad game.
"It will be a limited two-inning, one-at bat kind of workload in his first game," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "But it's starting on the 12th, the introduction into game situations. We'll see how he comes out of it and we anticipate he'll continue to move along in his progression of his rehab."
On Tuesday, Mesoraco caught for Arroyo in an intrasquad game and took one at-bat, where he struck out.
Mesoraco has been working his way back from two years' worth of injuries. In May 2016, he had an operation to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and a labrum surgery in July for his right hip. Back in June 2015, the labrum in his left hip was repaired.
"It'll be nice to just be a normal guy here," Mesoraco said. "I don't really have any concerns. I'm good, health-wise. I definitely feel excited for just getting back into games and getting ready to go."
For the last four days at the Minor League camp, Mesoraco took swings against pitchers and did some catching.
"Everything is feeling great," he said.
Worth noting:
• The Reds finalized one-year contracts on Friday with all their unsigned players with 0-3 years of service time. There was one player -- left fielder Adam Duvall -- who had his contract renewed, and he will earn $577,500 this season.
• Reliever Jumbo Diaz, who was designated for assignment on March 4, was claimed off of waivers by the Rays on Friday.
• Rotation candidate Tim Adleman, who suffered a right shoulder contusion when hit by a line drive during his start vs. the A's on Thursday, said on Friday that everything felt good. Adleman is still expected to make his next outing.
"We probably wouldn't know until his side day that there was a reason to push it back," Price said. "I don't think anyone here is anticipating he will miss any time at all. But we'll have a better idea when we are able to throw him on the side and verify everything is on the up-and-up."
