GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Reds are finally starting to see many of their key injured players slowly mending and making progress. But just as they've gotten a string of good news, another injury has put their top prospect out of commission for a few days.
Outfielder Jesse Winker was scratched from being the designated hitter in Friday's split-squad game against the Cubs because of a strained left hip flexor. Winker was playing right field in the fifth inning of Thursday's 5-4 win over the Rockies when he collided with center fielder Jake Cave to catch a fly ball.
"It was hit between us. It was a good drive, and we both had a bead on it," Winker said on Friday morning. "It was just one of those baseball plays that happened. I called it a little late, and we ran into each other."

Winker, ranked as the Reds' No. 1 prospect by MLBPipeline.com, remained in the game, but Juan Duran replaced him after the bottom of the fifth as a precaution.
"My hip is banged up a little bit," Winker said. "We're just going to take it day by day, and I will get back out there as soon as I can."
In seven games this spring, Winker is batting .333 (5-for-15) with two RBIs, and he's competing for the Reds' left-field vacancy.
On the other hand, several of the Reds' injury reports were positive.
• Pitcher Raisel Iglesias threw 15 pitches in his second session of the week vs. Reds hitters on Friday. Iglesias, who was delayed by a shoulder flexibility program at the start of camp, is on track to make his spring debut vs. the Angels on Monday.
"I feel really pleased with all of the things we've done. I feel really good, physically," Iglesias said via translator Tomas Vera.
• Among the hitters who batted against Iglesias was catcher Devin Mesoraco, who had a tight left groin and hip flexor. Mesoraco, who is trying to return from June left hip surgery, could make his spring debut by the middle to the end of next week, according to manager Bryan Price.
"Everything's going good, he's catching in the bullpen today, hitting live on the field, doing blocking drills," Price said. "That's kind of a fluid situation there."
• Pitcher Michael Lorenzen, who was scratched from Wednesday's starting assignment because of right elbow tenderness, resumed throwing on Friday. He was set to long toss from a distance of 70 feet.

"It's good," Lorenzen said of his arm. "Just light and get some blood flow."
• Center fielder Billy Hamilton (sore right shoulder) played catch for a second straight day. He was also slated to take batting practice on the field.

"So that's a step in the right direction," Price said.
Hamilton was limited to one game before the setback on his surgically repaired shoulder. It's still not known when he might get back into the lineup.
"That one's hard for me to answer, we haven't targeted a date yet," Price said. "That will be given to me from the medical and training staff."
