Cincinnati Reds President of Baseball Operations, General Manager Dick Williams today announced the signing of RHP Scott Feldman to a 1-year contract through the 2017 season.
"With this signing, we are adding someone who can compete for a spot in the rotation but help us in multiple ways," Williams said. "As a ground ball pitcher, we think Scott's pitching profile aligns with our park."
Feldman, 33, began his Major League career as a reliever with the Texas Rangers from 2005-2007 before making 178 starts from 2008-2015 with the Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and Houston Astros.
He pitched mostly out of the bullpen last season for the Astros and Blue Jays, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.97 ERA in 40 games and 8 starts.
A 12-year Major League veteran, Feldman won 17 games for the Rangers in 2009, when he was voted the club's Pitcher of the Year by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
A corresponding roster move will be announced later today.
