Reds sign lefty Mantiply to Minors contract

November 14th, 2017

CINCINNATI -- The Reds added another reliever to compete for a bullpen spot on Tuesday when left-hander was signed to a Minor League contract. The deal came with an invitation to big league camp for Spring Training.
Mantiply, 26, spent all of the 2017 season in the Yankees' organization at Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre and had a 2.83 ERA in 35 games, including six starts. In 70 innings, he allowed 72 hits and 18 walks, with 62 strikeouts.

In 2016, Mantiply made his Major League debut with the Tigers and logged a 16.88 ERA in five games, but only 2 2/3 innings. Detroit drafted Mantiply in the 27th round of the 2013 Draft.
During his overall Minor League career, Mantiply has a 2.53 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 189 games.
Last week, the Reds signed right-handed reliever to a Minor League deal and also invited him to big league camp. Save for at closer and as a lefty setup guy, the rest of Cincinnati's bullpen roles are viewed as being in flux.
