Acquired from the Nationals in the July deal for and , the 19-year-old lefty has pitched to a 1.93 ERA in 18 2/3 innings since entering the A's system. Overall, Luzardo owns a 1.67 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and two walks in 32 1/3 innings.
Duel of the day: Sandy Alcantara (Cards' No. 9) vs. Josh Staumont (Royals' No. 9), Springfield at NW Arkansas (7 p.m. ET)
Alcantara, a 21-year-old righty, has been impressive as of late, allowing two runs or fewer in his past seven starts. The 6-foot-4 Cards prospect signed with St. Louis in 2013 out of the Dominican Republic. Alcantara sports a 4.38 ERA in 22 starts with Double-A Springfield this year, striking out 101 and walking 54 in 121 1/3 innings.

Staumont, a second-round pick out of Azusa Pacific University in 2015, is a flame-thrower who touches triple digits with his fastball. As difficult as he is to hit, Staumont has struggled with his control. He's walked 88 batters this season, the third most of any pitcher in the Minors. The righty looks to get back on track after posting a 6.37 ERA across two levels this seaon.
