Adleman on track to make Saturday start

Reds righty benefits from off-day after exiting last outing with stiff neck; Mesoraco getting breather

May 17th, 2017

CHICAGO -- The Reds have penciled in to take his regular turn and start Saturday's game against the Rockies. The right-hander had to leave his start Sunday against the Giants after one inning with a stiff neck.

"He still has a little bit of a crick in the neck, but because of the off-day [Monday] he will get an extra day this time through," manager Bryan Price said before Tuesday night's game against the Cubs.

"We're hoping that he'll be OK, but we'll have to monitor to make sure that we can comfortably allow him to start that game without going through what we did last start."

The Reds will bring up left-hander from Triple-A Louisville to start the finale of the Cubs series on Thursday. Right-hander will start the opener of the Rockies series on Friday.

Mesoraco sits out

Reds catcher wasn't scheduled to start the first two games of the Cubs series. Backup will take his place in the lineup, and he hit eighth on Tuesday.

"He just was a little bit banged up; tightness in his hamstring," Price said of Mesoraco. "The way I had it laid out coming into this series is that Barny would catch the first two. We'll see when we get out there, but I anticipate [Mesoraco] being a usable piece."
