Frazier needs push on NL All-Star ballot

CINCINNATI -- For a third straight week, third baseman Todd Frazier and shortstop Zack Cozart remain as the Reds in contention for a starting spot in the latest round of the 2015 Esurance MLB All-Star Game fan voting. Frazier ranks third among National League third basemen, and Cozart is fifth among shortstops.

Frazier has registered 1,939,573 votes, but still trails phenom rookie Kris Bryant of the Cubs at 2,198,522 votes and first place vote-getter Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals at 4,455,782. Frazier entered play Tuesday hitting .289/.357/.599 with 18 home runs, 39 RBIs, 38 extra-base hits and eight stolen bases. He was tied for the third-most home runs in the NL and led the Majors in extra-base hits.

Cozart remains in the top five for shortstops in this week's update despite experiencing a season-ending knee injury on Wednesday against the Phillies. Cozart suffered tears in the anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments and the biceps tendon in his right knee when he slipped off first base trying to beat out a throw.

Cozart has 975,989 votes, with Jhonny Peralta of the Cardinals leading all shortstops at 4,020,531 votes. Before experiencing the injury, Cozart was having one of his best offensive seasons, hitting .258/.310/.459 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs.
