NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. -- The Reds announced on Monday that infielder/outfielder Tony Renda cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville.
Renda's departure leaves Cincinnati's 40-man roster at 38 players. With the second pick in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, it's possible the Reds could add one or two players.
In his Major League debut season, Renda batted .183 in 32 games over two stints with the Reds. The 25-year-old made 13 starts at four positions.

• Jerry Walker, a longtime special assistant to the general manager, is retiring. Walker, 77, joined the Reds in 2008 to advise and scout for president of baseball operations/GM Walt Jocketty and spent 13 seasons working for Jocketty in St. Louis. Jocketty stepped aside from running the Reds' baseball operations last month.
"I don't expect a significant hire to replace him, one-for-one," Reds GM Dick Williams said of Walker. "We will have some internal promotions to that role."
Other special assistants to the GM, including Cam Bonifay and Kevin Towers, are expected to remain in their same roles.
• Inside Williams' suite was the front office of the Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Reds affiliate was named Monday as the winner of the 2016 Bob Freitas Award by Baseball America as the top Double-A franchise in the Minor Leagues.

PGA golfer and two-time Masters tournament winner Bubba Watson joined Williams during his session with reporters. Watson is a member of the Pensacola ownership group.
"It's very neat," Watson said. "You have to be a team for five years. That was our fifth year, so we got the award right away."
