ST. PETERSBURG -- The Reds made a flurry of roster moves on Monday, placing shortstop Zack Cozart and pitcher Bronson Arroyo on the 10-day disabled list. Outfielder Jesse Winker was recalled from Triple-A Louisville, and reliever Ariel Hernandez was recalled from Double-A Pensacola.
Cozart has been bothered by a strained right quadriceps for several weeks, but exacerbated the soreness trying to leg out a grounder to shortstop in the ninth inning Saturday against the Dodgers.
"It's been just trying to pace myself and not trying to overdo it, and saving when I can run for when I need to run," Cozart said. "It was getting to the point where it was smart to take a couple of days and let it calm down, get some of the swelling out of there and get back to it."
The news comes shortly after Major League Baseball released an Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot fan voting update, showing Cozart atop National League shortstops with a .320/.404/.966 slash line with nine home runs and 33 RBIs.

With Cozart out, second baseman Jose Peraza will slide over to shortstop and utility man Scooter Gennett will play second base,
"I haven't been sitting on my hands waiting for an opportunity to use Scooter, and Scooter's still gotten a fair number of starts," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "This is what he's here for. When somebody goes down, if he can fit the bill in that position, he's the guy. He's a proven offensive weapon. He'll be in there regularly as our second baseman."
Since his DL stint is retroactive to Sunday, Cozart will be eligible to return to play June 28 against the Brewers.
"I anticipate being ready to play after," Cozart said. "I've been playing with it the whole time for a little while. But it was getting to the point where I was thinking about it too much. It didn't feel great. We're going to use these 10 days and be back."
Winker returns, gets first start
Winker, the Reds' No. 2 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, is back in the big leagues for the first time since his first career callup April 14-15. He made two pinch-hit at-bats and hit a two-run double for the game-winning runs in a victory over the Brewers on April 15. Winker was in Monday's starting lineup as the designated hitter against the Rays.

"There is certainly some good experience," Price said. "But he's in the lineup because I think he can help us offensively, not as a charity or to take a look at the rookie. We think this kid can hit, and that our lineup and our team will benefit from his time in our lineup."
Winker was batting .317 with two homers and 36 RBIs at Louisville, but has been even hotter over his last four games, going 9-for-16 (.563) with five doubles.
"You always try to be a tough out," he said. "You try to put the barrel on the ball and if you get good results, you get good results."
Winker, who hails from Orlando, had several family members and friends making the trip to Tropicana Field to see him play.
