All Phillies ready for Spring Training except Adams

Amaro: Reliever still recovering from shoulder surgery, leaving Opening Day in doubt

PHILADELPHIA -- Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. spoke for a few minutes last week about the 40-man roster and every other player expected to be in camp in Clearwater, Fla., next month.

Everybody should be ready to go, Amaro said.

Well, everybody expect setup man Mike Adams. He had right shoulder surgery last summer, and he might not be ready to pitch by Opening Day.

"We're hopeful that Adams comes back, although he'll probably be the one guy that may be a little behind this spring," Amaro said. "But he's feeling better. Other than Adams, we feel pretty good about what we've got coming into camp as far as our health is concerned. We do have to be at least cautious and aware of some guys like [Jonathan] Pettibone and KK [Kyle Kendrick]. But all indications are all those guys are 100 percent and ready to go other than Adams."

Pettibone and Kendrick both finished last season on the disabled list with arm injuries. They are healthy, but they will be monitored in Spring Training.

But Adams is worth following. The Phils signed him to a two-year, $12 million contract before the 2013 season because they believed he would be a lockdown setup man to closer Jonathan Papelbon. Adams went 1-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 28 appearances before landing on the DL.

"I don't think he's going to start doing bullpen [sessions], but he has gone through a tossing program, probably for the past couple weeks," Amaro said.
