Harris' big outs help elevate Astros over Red Sox

Houston reliever has notched scoreless outing in 8 of last 9 appearances

BOSTON -- On a day when the Astros' stellar bullpen was anything but, right-hander Will Harris came through with three of the biggest outs in a 12-8, 10-inning win over the Red Sox on Friday night at Fenway Park.

Harris came into the game in about as much as a pressure-cooker situation as you could get. The Red Sox had the bases loaded and no outs in the seventh inning, with the Astros clinging to a tenuous 7-6 lead in a back-and-forth game. He limited the damage to one run in an inning where it could have been much worse.

"That was incredible," closer Luke Gregerson said. "He's been doing stuff like that all year. We've brought him in a lot of key situations with guys on base and he either gets out of it or limits the damage, which he did tonight with the bases loaded. At Fenway, fans are screaming, and sometimes you can get a little rattled, and I thought he did a great job of limiting the runners crossing the plate."

Harris struck out Mike Napoli for the first out before Alejandro De Aza plated the tying run on a fielder's choice grounder corralled behind second base by shortstop Carlos Correa. He got Ryan Hanigan to ground out to end the inning for his eighth scoreless outing in his last nine games.

"It could have gotten ugly that inning," manager A.J. Hinch said. "Harris did a good job of controlling damage. It's another situation where he put him in, it's going to take a Houdini act to get out of it."
