Replay confirms Zunino's double off wall

SEATTLE -- Using Major League Baseball's instant-replay procedure, umpires confirmed catcher Mike Zunino's double hit off the top of Safeco Field's right-field fence in the sixth inning of Friday's game between the Mariners and Astros.

With one out and nobody on, Zunino launched left-hander Rudy Owens' 0-1 changeup deep to right. The baseball hit the yellow stripe on the top of the wall and bounced back into the field of play. Second-base umpire Tom Hallion signaled the ball was in play as Zunino cruised into second.

After a 33-second review, the umpires confirmed that the call, and Zunino stayed at second.

On the next pitch, Willie Bloomquist launched a two-run shot down the left-field line to give the Mariners a 5-1 lead.
