September 16th, 2017

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays cashed in on perhaps their most consequential challenge of the season, which overturned what would have been the go-ahead run in the 11th inning of a 13-6, 15-inning loss to the Red Sox on Friday night.
With nobody out and runners on the corners, grounded up the middle into the shift. Shortstop fired home, causing Devin Marrero to rethink his decision to advance and head back to third. Catcher chased him back toward the bag, but Marrero juked backward and ran home as Sucre continued to third to try to tag the trailing runner, .
The umpire called Marrero safe at home, under the belief that Sucre missed the tag. Rays manager Kevin Cash came out to issue a two-headed challenge: that Marrero and Swihart were both out.
After a 3-minute, 16-second review, the decision was made, preserving the 5-5 tie. The Rays did not tag Swihart at third in time, but the tag on Marrero was indeed made, preserving the tie.
The Red Sox had forced extra innings with a three-run rally in the ninth. An intentional walk after the replay review loaded the bases for Boston with one out. Hechavarria made a leaping stop on 's liner and flied out.
