Replay review upholds Giants' tag at plate

Sanchez's play on Owings confirmed after umpires check video

PHOENIX -- A crew-chief review of a play at home plate went in favor of the Giants on Friday night as an out call on D-backs shortstop Chris Owings was confirmed.

With two outs and a runner on first in the fifth, Owings blasted a Tim Lincecum pitch to deep center.

The ball hit off the wall, eluding center fielder Gregor Blanco and kicking back toward the infield.

Ender Inciarte scored easily from first and Arizona third-base coach Glenn Sherlock elected to wave Owings around for a possible inside-the-park homer.

Blanco, however, tracked down the ball and fired a strike to cutoff man Brandon Crawford, who in turn made an accurate throw to catcher Hector Sanchez, who tagged Owings for the third out of the inning.

D-backs manager Kirk Gibson came out to apparently tell home-plate umpire Dan Iassogna that he thought Sanchez did not give Owings a lane in which to slide.

Iassogna talked things over with third-base umpire and crew chief Dale Scott, and they decided to initiate a crew-chief review.
