RHP Guillermo Moscoso recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs

Club Designates RHP Mike Ekstrom for Assignment

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Guillermo Moscoso from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the Rockies active roster, Colorado has designated right-handed pitcher Mike Ekstrom for assignment. Moscoso (#56) will start today’s Rockies vs. Brewers game at Coors Field (1:10 p.m. MDT).

Moscoso, 29, has made two starts and eight relief appearances this season for the Rockies across two earlier stints with the club. He is 0-1 with an 8.23 ERA (27.1 ip, 25 er) in his eight games for Colorado this season. Moscoso has spent the remainder of his 2012 season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 8-5 with a 6.25 ERA (90.2 ip, 63 er), 25 walks and 83 strikeouts in 16 starts. The Venezuela native is 8-11 with a 4.24 ERA (170.0 ip, 80 er) in 44 career appearances, 23 starts, in parts of four Major League seasons with Texas (2009-10), Oakland (2011) and Colorado (2012). He was acquired by Colorado along with left-handed pitcher Josh Outman from Oakland in exchange for Seth Smith on January 16, 2012.

Ekstrom, 28, has made 15 relief appearances for the Rockies this season, with no record and a 6.32 ERA (15.2 ip, 11 er). Prior to being added to the Major League roster on 7/13, Ekstrom spent the entire season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 2-1 with a 2.64 ERA (47.2 ip, 14 er), 15 walks and 51 strikeouts in 37 appearances. Ekstrom has pitched in the Major Leagues in each of the last five seasons with San Diego (2008-09), Tampa Bay (2010-11) and Colorado (2012). In 51 career Major League games he is 0-3 with a 5.61 ERA (61.0 ip, 38 er), 26 walks and 45 strikeouts.

The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
