Retired teacher and former naval officer Richard Albero to arrive at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, May 26 after 1,150-mile charity walk in support of the Wounded Warrior Project
The Yankees today announced that on Tuesday, May 26, Richard Albero, a former naval officer and educational professional, will conclude a walk from home plate at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla., to home plate at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y. - a trek of approximately 1,150 miles - in support of the Wounded Warrior Project.
The final leg of his journey will begin on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at "The Bat" by the site of the original Yankee Stadium, where he will be joined by Wounded Warriors. The group will walk through Heritage Park, across E. 161st Street and up Jerome Avenue toward Gate 2 of the current Stadium. At approximately 6:45 p.m., Albero and the Wounded Warriors will enter the field of play at Yankee Stadium through the left-center field wall and make their way to home plate.
After Albero touches home, the Yankees will hold an on-field ceremony to commemorate the occasion.
Albero began his walk on March 2 to honor his nephew Gary Albero, who died in the 9/11 attacks. Richard's goal was to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project, while incorporating Gary's love for the New York Yankees.
Aided by a number of support drivers by his side, Albero will complete his trip in 86 days. He has already raised approximately $27,000.
