Porcello has solid rehab start at Class A Lowell

BOSTON -- Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello had an encouraging first rehab start with Class A Short Season Lowell on Saturday night, allowing three hits in 3 2/3 scoreless innings on 36 pitches.

"He threw the ball really well," Red Sox interim manager Torey Lovullo. "In my conversation with Rick, he was really pleased with the way the ball was coming out of his hand."

The Red Sox had originally intended for Porcello to go four innings and throw around 65 pitches, but the game was suspended due to rain.

Porcello was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the first time in his career on Aug. 2 with a right triceps strain.

He's had a rough first year with the club, going 5-11 with a 5.81 ERA in 20 starts.
